While the concept is simple and always will be ‘get found in food,’ FoodGrads will be so much more than that. It will be an online network that compels you to log in every day. We know this will only happen if the content is gripping—the site user friendly and ‘pretty’—and you see value. For us the ultimate value is a stepping stone to your career in food and a place once in your first job that you come back to, like coming home.
What’s your experience going to be?
Inclusive as opposed to small groups. We know you are interested in making everyone feel welcome—you would choose a collaborative work culture rather than one based on competition—which is why networks within FoodGrads will not exist. Everyone who is eligible to be part of this online community (graduated from a food related discipline) will be ‘your network’ we are promoting support as opposed to competition. We will not encourage grads to focus on things that are unimportant, like how many people are in their network. Your time is better spent focusing on making sure your profile is stellar, you are showcasing who you are and the value you can bring to the best of your abilities (and we will help you authenticate that) and that you are having meaningful conversations with other members, and feeling supported as you start your career in food.
We keep using #foodfamily as you know if you have been following us (and if you aren’t, you should be @foodgrads). I have a cushion at home that inspired this notion, a family can materialize in all shapes and sizes, two or more people who share goals and values, have long term commitment to one another (replace the word reside to ‘hang out’) in the same place. As you move through your career a network of food sector professionals that you know well, not just as a resume might be a very handy tool, just saying ☺
The foundation of FoodGrads is bigger than us. We suspect you desire more than just a pay cheque or a job. Joining this community, you will feel part of something bigger than yourself. Our community has the power to be the change we need to see in this industry with regards to healthy food choices and understanding food is medicine—your job in the food sector is important and meaningful—and together we have a voice for that.
So, welcome home! Put your slippers on, make a cup of tea and curl up on the couch. Up next. What will my FoodGrads profile look like?
