Hi there, I’m Chelsey!
I work for an AMAZING program called Taste Your Future, you may have heard of it … if not, well, I will let you return to your bubble.
Taste Your Future
Taste Your Future is a program in Ontario that is educating and inspiring young people on all the career opportunities available within the food and beverage processing industry. It has been such a blast working with the Taste Your future team. Seriously if you haven’t checked them out yet you really must!
Here is the link just to make it convenient for you.
Taste Your Future knows the power social media has and wanted to unlock a variety of social channels to spread their message. So, that’s exactly what we did! I helped grow the program’s existing channel’s following immensely.
When we started, Taste Your Future’s twitter account had less than 200 followers, now they have more than 1,000 real and engaged followers!
We also took the leap and put Taste Your Future on Instagram map! The program wanted to talk directly to young people, so you’ve got to show up where your target audience is. In less than a month, Taste Your Future’s Instagram account had over 500 followers!
So that’s what I do….
I’m a social media nerd and design guru in this small corner of the internet. After graduating from College and University in Professional Communications, I was excited to jump into my career. I adored the work, but I felt I could provide more personalized and meaningful work (that I knew would curate more success) for small businesses, organizations, and entrepreneurs than I could within a big company.
So that takes us to where we are now … landing my first job in the food industry, and guess what? I never looked back!
It seems nowadays everyone is posting pictures of their food before they dive in for a bite (I am not one of these patient individuals), so it may appear that the food industry is thriving online; however, that isn’t quite the case.
Although everyone loves to eat, take artistic food pictures, share recipes, and blog about food – there is a real lack of awareness of the types of careers available for young people in the food industry outside of the stereotypical chef, and food companies are really struggling. I have been able to apply my communications major to the food industry, who knew!
So, whether you are in communications like me or an engineer, scientist, or a person who loves food. I really recommend checking out a career in the food industry like I have. It’s been brilliant! The opportunities are endless.
A few months ago, My Food Job Rocks podcast reached out asking to have me on as a guest to talk about exactly that: social media and food, and how to succeed online. I was overwhelmed with the honour to talk with host Adam Yee about my path and I got to geek out about social media and graphic design, bonus!
In the podcast, we dive into; my general thoughts about social media marketing; why food companies are struggling; how to share a message and build awareness; how networking is the key to success in any industry; and we get into a few anecdotes about my life – you can bet my love for cookies definitely came up.
Feel free to check out the podcast and learn why my food job rocks and how I got where I am now, doing what I love.
Here’s to creating success, taking a few risks, and enjoying life to the fullest.
